Ingol Golf Course – A local success story

by neildarby on 20 March, 2014

One year on, Neil Darby looks at how Ingol Golf Course is progressing

It is about a year since the campaign to save Ingol Golf Course was won, and the new owners have been busy rebuilding the Ingol Village Golf Club. “The Liberal Democrats in Ingol and Tanterton have a story of success to tell in preventing the golf course from being turned to other uses,” said owner John Wright, “The Lib Dem councillors with local residents put up a stiff fight with the developers and ultimately the planning
officials agreed with the people that the land should be retained as a golf course.” Focus Editor Neil Darby arranged for the local councillors to visit to see how the club is progressing. What they found was a rapidly growing sports and social club led by a dynamic and enthusiastic management team. The club is attracting many new members and is encouraging local residents to join – particularly youngsters. Training for
children 6-16 years old is just £5 a week, and they can play for free as a free member if they are local (PR2 postcode area). Call John Wright on 01772 723898 to enquire. The clubhouse is also doing well, with morning coffees and lunch and evening meals, plus a fully stocked bar. With the comfortable surroundings, it is also becoming popular for functions – from birthdays to charity fundraisers. “The success and growth of Ingol Village Golf Club is a true local success story,” said Neil Darby, “a great deal of investment has been made in Ingol and Tanterton which is boosting the local economy. The focus on encouraging local children to get involved in the sport is excellent and I hope that many families will take this up – and perhaps in a few years we’ll have a home-grown Tiger Woods! Throw in the excellent regenerated clubhouse and Ingol and Tanterton has a real community asset in the Club.”
