A Great Record of Action in Tulketh

by neildarby on 19 April, 2011

You said: “We want a tidy community!”

We have all seen parts of our local community which desperately need cleaning. Whether it is pavements covered in dog mess or back alleys filled with fly tipping, it looks terrible and shows no pride or respect in our local area.

We launched the Tidy Tulketh campaign

We have launched our Tidy Tulketh campaign to combat the terrible tipping and the disgusting dog fouling which blight areas of our neighbourhood. Already we have seen a noticeable difference in some of our worst offending areas and we want to continue to build on this success across our community.

You said: “We want to be protected in our area!”

Seeing police on our streets makes us all feel safer and helps reduce crime in our area. We all want to feel safe on our streets day and night, and knowing that we have the added protection of our PCSOs is invaluable.

We protected the PCSO budget

A key Liberal Democrat demand in the Preston City Council budget was the continuation of the section of the PCSO funding which comes from Preston City Council as we feel it is vital to keep them on our streets. We were delighted to see this within the final budget passed by Preston City Council.

You said: “We want a say on planning issues!”

Preston City Council has been years behind other local authorities in the region on planning regulations. Local residents have not been allowed to make representations to the planning committee on applications for planning permission which may affect them and their family for decades to come. Instead residents have had to rely on their councillors to attend planning meetings in their stead.

We are opening up Preston City Council

The Liberal Democrats on Preston City Council, led by former Tulketh campaigner Councillor John Potter, passed the Open Council motion. This will ensure that, amongst other changes opening up the Council to the public, you will be able to have your say on all planning applications put forward in your area.

You said: “We want safer roads!”

We all know a road or black spot locally where we do not feel safe on the road, either as a pedestrian or as a driver. All too often this matter is exasperated by dangerous driving. Whether it is drivers speeding, cars parked badly or other hazards, we want to see them stopped and our roads made safe.

We have worked to improve road safety in Tulketh

I have worked with local authorities to help monitor and improve local road safety. From standing in the snow with a speed gun, to police operations combating dangerous driving, to simply passing along information to local police on the latest trouble-spots to emerge, I am committed to improving safety on our roads.
