Local Liberal Democrats look to save local businesses

With the Tesco Express store being built at Tulketh Mill, concerns have been raised across the area about how this will affect the local businesses based around Lane Ends. The Tesco store looks to open later this year, from around April onwards (date TBC) and another two units will be opened on the site with Dominos Pizza applying for planning permission to modify one of these, and Subway having previously shown interest.

With 78 car parking spaces next to these new units and car parking scarce at Lane Ends, there are genuine concerns that local businesses will lose out to these big chain stores, destroying a portion of our local identity.

Local campaigner Neil Darby has stated that he would like to see the Council take some measures to help these local businesses stay competitive in difficult economic climates, such as investigating whether it is possible to create more parking for customers in the Lane Ends area, or otherwise incentivise shoppers to visit our local businesses.
