Over £4.2m for school sports in Lancashire

by neildarby on 11 April, 2013

The Coalition Government has announced a £4.2m boost for school sports in Lancashire from September. Every state primary school in the County will receive funding for sports in 2013/14 and 2014/15, including:

  • Approximately £9,165 for The Roebuck School
  • Approximately £8, 825 for English Martyrs Primary School
  • Approximately £8,540 for Pool House Primary School
  • Approximately £8,510 for Holy Family Catholic Primary School
  • Approximately £8,250 for Ingol Primary School
  • Approximately £8,900 for Cottam Primary School
  • Approximately £8,625 for Lea Primary School
  • Approximately £8,370 for Lea St Mary’s School
  • Approximately £8,555 for Lea Endowed School
  • Approximately £8,665 for St Bernard’s School

The funding is the equivalent of around two days a week of a primary teacher’s time to provide more sport for their pupils. A typical primary school with 250 pupils would receive £9,250 per year.

Commenting, Neil Darby said:

“This money means children in Preston will be able to take part in sport in primary schools.

“Sport can help children to build confidence, understand teamwork and, above all, keep healthy.

“Liberal Democrats are determined to make sure we take advantage of the enthusiasm we saw during the Olympics last year. The best legacy of the Games would be more children taking part in sport and learning how to live a healthy lifestyle.”
