Local campaigner Neil Darby has kicked off a campaign for speeding on Lytham Road to be curbed.
Neil Darby, along with Lib Dem councillors John Potter and John Bruton of neighbouring Cadley Ward, braved the freezing weather and the snow to measure the speed of motorists on Lytham Road using a police-style radar gun.
The average speed recorded on Lytham Road was 20.32mph – over the 20mph speed limit – with a top speed of 30mph recorded. And this was in the middle of the day with dangerous driving conditions.
This issue has gone on for far too long and it must be tackled. I am pleased to say that having raised the speeding matter with the local police they have agreed to include Lytham Road on Operation Pathway which tackles dangerous issues on roads.
Neil held meetings with local police to discuss the matter with local police in more detail. As a result of this work, police have increased their presence and enforcement has been done on Lytham Rd resulting in several fixed penalty notices issued for a range of offences. Other motorists were warned where appropriate.
Further action by Neil and the local police is expected to take place shortly to demonstrate a continued commitment to tackling speeding in the area. If you are concerned about danger-spots on roads near you, please get in touch.
